TR's: adding multiple gpx files?

Post by d_baker »

I thought I've seen reports (e.g., pretty sure I saw one of Otina's w/several) that has more than one gpx file uploaded, or I'm imagining it. Can it be done? The editor page where we add gpx files to a report says only one is allowed.
Am I missing something?

Might not be what you have in mind but on the 14ers map you can import multiple gpx files onto the same page then export them all together as one gpx that you could load into a TR...

The trip reports you're seeing with multiple tracks are ones where the author saved them into one GPX file. When the file is uploaded to a TR, all track lines in the file are displayed on the map.

If using gaia, how do you export different tracks into one gpx?

I use GAIA and my solution has been to download the tracks from GAIA and then go to the map page on 14ers where I click the pencil icon and then select import. Repeat that for as many tracks as desired and then, with them all showing on the map, click the export tab and it exports everything shown into one gpx. Then upload that gpx file to the TR (or import back into GAIA if you care to).

Probably some way to do it directly in GAIA but I've never bothered since this works nicely.

It can be done in the free iOS GAIA app even though it’s cumbersome.

In the Saved tab:
1) on the upper right, tap the options button and create a new folder that will ultimately include your tracks you want to export
2) change the upper left to ALL. To the right of each track you want exported, select Choose Parent Folder and select that folder you created.
3) On the upper left, change to FOLDERS, find your folder. Tap it, hit the Share button and find the Export.

Caltopo and Garmin Basecamp can also combine an arbitrary number of tracks into a single file. I can show how to do that if users of those applications are interested.

I use CalTopo too. It's pretty simple to Import all the files you want and then when you export you can click which lines and points you want to have on one file. Not only for combining my own tracks but I'll use it for combining others' tracks if I want to do a certain route up and certain route down
