Mount Lincoln - 14,293 Feet

Named after President Lincoln, this is the 8th highest 14er in Colorado and the high point of Park County. To see Lincoln and neighboring Mt. Bross, take Colorado 9 to Hoosier Pass from either Fairplay or Breckenridge. If you're looking for a good day trip from Denver, you can make a loop through Summit and Park Counties by taking Interstate 70 to Colorado 9 and back to the city via U.S. 285. Mount Lincoln, along with its neighbors Democrat, Cameron and Bross, have been heavily mined over the years and some hiking trails climb through land owned by these private mining companies.

Over the years, there have been times when these landowners have denied hiking access to the summits, fearing liability in the case of injury due to the presence of old mines. In ongoing efforts, the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative (CFI), Colorado Mountain Club (CMC) and other organizations continue to work with the landowners to provide access to hikers — if you'd like to climb one or all of the peaks in the Lincoln group, do some research here on 14ers.com to make sure the peaks are open. If so, the standard way to climb all of these peaks together is often referred to as the DeCaLiBron, a loop route which starts at the Kite Lake Trailhead. Read more
