We traversed to Windom from Sunlight. We stayed as high as possible in the basin to mitigate elevation loss and it worked out well. After we summited Windom it was a haul back to Cascade where we spent a second night. Took 44 hours car to car to summit all four peaks with big packs. It'd definitely be more enjoyable if done in 4 or 5 days.

How many miles was your backpacking in and what trail did you take? Have heard anything from 13- 20 miles. Thanks!

Healthnut13 - We started from Purgatory and took the Purgatory Flats trail down to Casade where we joined the Animas River Trail and took it North until it met up with the Needle Creek Trail (which is the normal approach when the train is running). It was just short of 16 miles to our campsite high in the basin. The entire trip was 42 miles round trip€ť16 miles to camp, 10 miles to climb all 4 peaks in a day, and 16 miles back from camp to the car.
